The story behind preetitounicode.site
Our Mission
preetitounicode.site was built with a simple mission: to make Nepali digital content accessible and modern. Millions of documents, articles, and publications written in the Preeti font remain locked in a legacy format that modern systems cannot read. We are here to bridge that gap — for free.
The Problem We Solve
For decades, the Preeti font was the primary way Nepali speakers typed digital content. It was a practical solution at a time when Unicode Devanagari support was limited. Today, however, Preeti-encoded text is invisible to search engines, incompatible with social media platforms, and unreadable on devices without the Preeti font installed.
Journalists, students, government offices, and content creators across Nepal still have archives of content in Preeti format. Our tool helps them convert that content to Unicode Nepali instantly, without installing any software.
How the Tool Works
The Preeti-to-Unicode conversion uses a character-level mapping algorithm that translates each Preeti font character to its corresponding Unicode Devanagari codepoint. The reverse converter (Unicode to Preeti) applies the same mapping in reverse.
Crucially, all conversion happens entirely within your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never sent to any server. This ensures complete privacy and fast, offline-capable performance once the page has loaded.
