How to Type Nepali in Microsoft Word: 3 Simple Methods (2025)
Microsoft Word is one of the most widely used document editors in Nepal, and knowing how to type Nepali Devanagari text in it is a must-have skill for students, professionals, and government employees alike. This guide explains three reliable methods.
Method 1: Use Preeti Font (Legacy)
First, install the Preeti font on Windows 11. Open Word, select "Preeti" from the font dropdown, and start typing. This works immediately without any complex setup. However, remember that Preeti text is not readable on other systems without the font installed.
Method 2: Use Windows Nepali IME
The second method is to configure the Windows Nepali IME through the Language & Region settings. This lets you type directly in Unicode Devanagari, which is universally readable.
Method 3: Type in Preeti and Convert
The third approach is best for experienced Preeti typists who need unicode-ready documents. Type your content in Preeti font in Word as usual, then paste it into our Preeti to Unicode Converter, copy the output, and paste it back into Word using a Unicode font like Mangal, Kalimati, or Noto Sans Devanagari.
